Too Damn Bad, Politics Cares About You

If you live in the United States, you may not realize that you are currently experiencing an unimaginably rare thing. You live in a democracy with systematically fair elections, a decently strong economy that ensures that the vast majority of people won't go to bed hungry tonight. YES, there are significant problems. Many more and more severe than there should be. But by and large, we live in an incredibly prosperous, well-run country. Even though it doesn't feel like it when you read the news.

Dear reader, please, for the love of god, do not take this for granted. The vast majority of people who have ever lived never experienced what you are experiencing now. And it is not guaranteed that the vast majority of future humans will share in the delights of freedom of expression, freedom from absolute poverty, or any other freedom that you enjoy today.
