The Best Recipe I Know (for actual human beings)
this recipe is seriously the best recipe I know. why? only because it checks all the boxes, which are as follows. the best recipe must be:
- delicious
- filling
- nutritious, including plenty of protein
- cheap to make
- quick to make
- easy to make
- decent for the environment
- vegan (I know this is personal preference, but I don't think meat would really improve this meal)
- dairy free (unintentionally)
- gluten free (unintentionally)
- made with staple/non-perishable ingredients
this recipe checks all of the above boxes with flying colors. so, without further ado:
adam ragusea's easy chana masala
ingredients
- 2 cans chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans)
- 1 can petite diced tomatoes
- 1 can diced green chiles (in your preferred level of spicyness)
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- a bit of flour or cornstarch, for thickness
- a splash of extra virgin olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- cilantro, if desired
instructions
- in a medium pot, heat a small splash of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. stir in the garam masala and fry until fragrant.
- add diced tomatoes, chickpeas, ginger powder, onion and garlic powder. one can of chickpeas should be drained, the other one should not be.
- cook for like 20 minutes
- stir in a little flour or cornstarch to thicken
- add salt and pepper to taste
- serve over rice, garnish with cilantro
